Contract position- 5 months

 

Work as part of the Enterprise IT Shared Plaftorm Services  Database Administration team to design, deploy and support 24x7x365 operations in a highly regulated biotechnology environment.

Manage primarily Oracle databases and Oracle RAC instances in Development/Test/Validation/Production environments. Manage also SQL Server databases.

Responsible of installation, configuration, backup, recovery, upgrades, schema changes, etc.

Perform database health monitoring and diagnostics.

Integrate monitoring, auditing, and alert systems for databases with existing monitoring infrastructure.

Implement, maintain and automate the appropriate backup and recovery architecture required.

Occasional off-shift availability to resolve Production issues or assist in Production deployments.

Work closely with other members of the DBA Team and be an active contributing member.

Responsible for system performance and reliability.

Responsible for enabling backup and recovery procedures for database environments.

Meticulous attention to detail with an appreciation for the relationship between database/system reliability and company success.

Ensure proactive engagement in Incident Management process, working with Application Support teams to minimize the impact of database outages.

Builds positive working relationships across departments and with own team members.

10+ years of production DBA experience

Experience working in production environments requiring 99.9% availability.

Oracle 9i/10g/11g experience, OCP preferred SQL Server 2005, 2008 Experience deploying and managing Oracle on HPUX, Redhat Linux and other platforms using virtualization.

Scripting/Programming experience preferred Experience with other database technologies, such as MSSQL is a major plus.

Solid experience in database tuning, design, security, backup, recovery, and archival concepts and procedures.

Familiarity with ETL processes and operations Understand the interaction between the database and the SAN. Knowledge of SAN specific database tuning techniques and Thin Provisioning.

Experience with Netbackup RMAN integration.

Experience with Oracle EM Grid Control monitoring software.

Used to working with Enterprise ticketing systems.

Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical mployees and with vendors of system related products.

Strong problem solving, testing, and network troubleshooting skills.

Comfort working in a truly international company and with teams in remote geographic locations.

Strong technical background.

Operating Systems: HPUX 11.21 & 11.31, Red Hat Linux 5.5, Windows 2003, 2008

Education: Bachelor.s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
